How to improve the cinema-going experience

We live in an age where everyone has mobile phones, and cinemas now have a notice come up on the screen to remind people to switch their phones off. At some mainstream cinemas this notice comes up some time before the film itself actually starts, often before the adverts. This means it is missed by anyone coming in just before the film itself starts. So I found myself recently sitting behind some people who did not get the message and one girl kept her phone on so it would light up whenever she got a text, which was quite distracting. Why can’t cinemas put the notice up just before the film starts? Surely that is not too much to ask? Or how about showing the message before the adverts and then a reminder before the film? Is that beyond the ability of humanity? And whilst I’m on this topic, off means off, it doesn’t mean on silent so that it still lights up. End of moan……

  1. Greetings and Salutations! It’s Stuart’s psychiatrist here. I urge you all to turn off your mobile phones before the film begins. Please also refrain from talking during the film and eating popcorn. If this practice continues it is only a matter of time before Stuart cracks and turns Django in the auditorium. You’ll save me the job of putting him in a straight jacket and taking him off to the mental asylum. He may look tough in a sort of Michael Corleone/ Charles Hawtrey way but he wouldn’t last more than a few weeks in the Cuckoo’s Nest. Ok, so he might actually benefit from a little bit of electric shock therapy but there would be a few nasty surprises for him down the ole Shock Corridor. Please ensure he is left to watch the film undisturbed.
