Some people prefer to see a film once and leave it at that, regardless of how good the film is. Personally I often like to see a film more than once, especially if years have gone by since I last saw it. To take a musical analogy, would a lover of Beethoven only listen to Beethoven’s 5th symphony once? Of course not. And the fact is I am a different person now than I was yesterday, let alone 10 years ago, and hence my experience of a film I saw years ago will also be different today. Also my own emotional state affects my enjoyment of a film, for example if I am tired or preoccupied it doesn’t matter how good the film is, I won’t be able to do it justice and may well see it again quite soon. Case in point: a couple of years ago I saw Fellini’s 81/2 for the first time and due to not being in a good frame of mind I just couldn’t connect with it.
