One of the perennial annoyances of film criticism and reviews is the habit of giving plot-points away. Sight and Sound being the worst example of this. Why do they have to do it? Admittedly they do sometimes give a warning at the beginning of some of the reviews but EVERY review is far too detailed about the plot. This blog is a spoiler-free zone. To the extent that, if I review a film that has a twist, I will not even mention the fact that it has a twist. If I know a film has a twist then when I watch it I find myself trying to work out what the twist is rather than engaging with the film. Of course in previous decades it was much easier to avoid reading too much about a new film. When Psycho came out in 1960, the shock must have been all the greater for that very reason. Although there should have been a clue when the credits first come up because Janet Leigh isn’t even listed as the main star, she is listed as “….and Janet Leigh”.
Interesting what you said about Janet Leigh, that had never occurred to me
